The new year has heralded the start of exciting new drink options in one of the nations favourite coffee shops, with Costa now offering Arla Lactofree alongside their dairy alternatives!

Everyone knows how much of a fan of coffee I am, so when Arla Lactofree invited me to test out their lactose free options in Costa, I quite literally jumped at the chance!

It’s official, coffee just got even better!

In fact, Costa is the only high street coffee shop to currently offer a Lactofree milk option. It means that there’s a great variety of options for customers to enjoy their coffee whilst out and about which is wonderful.

So what is Arla Lactofree?

Well, it contains all the nutrition of natural milk such as protein, vitamins, calcium and more, just without the lactose.

What is lactose?

It’s the sugar that occurs naturally in animal milks. When we consume it, our bodies digest it with lactase, which breaks the lactose down into 2 sugars known as glucose and galactose which are then absorbed easily into our bloodstream.

For those that are lactose intolerant, they don’t produce enough lactase to break it down. This can then cause unpleasant symptoms such as abdominal bloating, diarrhoea, flatulence, discomfort and more.

I hear from many of you that lactose intolerance is a big issue for you and that you struggle to find decent alternatives that aren’t restricting you to dairy-free only options. You want the lactose free options but without the need to compromise on the great taste of dairy.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of coffee, ok hands up, I’m a huge fan of coffee and can often be found with a cup in my hand. Add to that, the fact I can be found more often than not in various coffee establishments over the course of a week, with either a latte or a mocha in one hand and my laptop in another, attempting to work in a different environment to get the creative juices flowing.

So I think it’s fair to say that testing out my favourite coffee with Arla Lactofree was always going to be a big winner for me!

Did it taste the same?

I have to say, I would never have known that my coffee (I opted for a mocha with Lactofree and a ‘normal’ latte to taste test) was made with Lactofree milk.

It frothed up in exactly the same way.

It tasted exactly the same!

Everything was the same, expect for the fact it didn’t contain lactose. I’m really impressed!

And you can order any of your favourite drinks and ask for them to be made with Arla Lactofree. In fact, Costa currently have a special promotion on where they have created a special Vanilla Latte to mark the occasion.

This is a big deal. I see across many of the social media groups I’m part of that people are desperate for lactose free milk to be available, and their prayers have now been answered. As an advocate for inclusion across the board, this such a positive move on the part of Costa and Arla!

Have you tried it yet? What did you think?
