As any allergy parent will tell you, sleep is for wimps! Ok, I exaggerate, but only slightly!
Sleep is often broken, and difficult to get more than 2-3 hours of good quality sleep every night when adjusting to the allergy journey and attempting to take control of reactions.
It’s certainly the case in our house!
As a result, you will find that coffee is our best friend!
I love coffee and I’m not ashamed to admit it!
No seriously, I wouldn’t be able to function without my trusty cup of coffee (read 3 cups) every day. It’s my vice if you like, I enjoy these cups of coffee, and as such, I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to buying coffee.
A while ago, we introduced you to our lovely friends at Perkulatte. They have the most wonderful concept when it comes to coffee. They have an incredible selection of artisan roasted coffee available through mail order.

My challenge
The lovely Katie at Perkulatte loved the look of the overloaded hot chocolate that I recently created, and challenged me to come up with a coffee version using her products.
Now, not one to shy away from a challenge, I grabbed the opportunity!
It’s one with a difference though, as it’s top 14 safe!
Yes, you heard right! I know, we’re good!
Mocha Freakshake
Prep: 5 minutes
Yield: 1 large glass/mug
You will need
- ¾ cup made up Perkulatte coffee (hot)
- ¼ cup dairy-free milk
- x1 Perkulatte cinnamon sugar spoon
- x2 Gluten and dairy-free biscuits - crushed
- Chocolate sauce to drizzle – such as Sweet Freedom
- ¾ cup dairy-free chocolate ice cream (see our recipe here)
- Coconut cream – whipped with 1 tbsp icing sugar
- Sprinkle of Perkulatte coffee beans
Method
Add the coffee, milk and sugar spoon to a large jug, and mix until the spoon has melted.
Drizzle a little of the chocolate sauce around the rim of a large mug, before rolling in the crushed biscuits.
Pour the coffee, milk and sugar spoon mix into the mug, then add the chocolate ice cream.
Pipe the whipped coconut cream over the top.
Drizzle a little more chocolate sauce over the top of everything, and finish with a sprinkle of coffee beans.
